Thought everyone might enjoy some eye candy from this years Rassemblement Internationale de Canyon (RIC) right here at home in Ouray, Colorado!
Waterflows were low/moderate this year. We all dodged a little weather, specifically Wednesday where several groups were forced to wait out conditions at higher ground. All in all it was a fantastic event!
The upcoming RICs sound TANTALIZING!!! 2016: Azores (Spain), 2017: Reunion Island (Madagascar), 2018: Ticino (Switzerland).
Canyons Featured in photos: Cascade Creek, Upper Uncompahgre River, Oak Creek, Corbett Creek, Weehawken Creek, Portland Creek & last but not least Bear Creek.
P.S. Rumor has it that there was a 14min, 20second (car-to-car) descent of Portland Creek.

Beautiful pictures, thanks for posting them! Do you know if those 2016-2018 destinations are pretty firm? I have been thinking about traveling to Switzerland and northern Italy for hiking & a few canyons next year…so 2018 would be a great time to return for a canyon rendezvous.

They tend to be pretty firm. I’ve attended a number of them in Greece, France, and Italy. Very well run, good deals on lodging and food, great nightly entertainment. Highly recommended.
Reunion is huge on folks’ hit list. If that event is limited, then, get your ticket early.
I’ve not been to Ticino but its high on my list of places to visit (climbing and canyoning).
I think there’s been an international rendezvous in the Azores…last year…(CIMA)…

Cool, this is great to know! Is the best way to get information about these gatherings just to periodically search the internet? Or is there something I didn’t find in my search just now? Searching for a 2016 event basically just brings up your very nice post here. Maybe in the winter before the rendezvous, more information starts to come out?
My concern is that I’ve never been to a canyon rendezvous before. In 2018 I will have been visiting canyons independently for 5 years, so that seemed to be a great time to start meeting up with strangers for canyons. I want to bring plenty of knowledge and experience so as not to be a burden on the other rendezvous-ers. 2016 will definitely be too early, which is a pity because the Azores sound amazing. 2017 might be okay, though. I will look into prices to get to Reunion…if it’s not too expensive, that could be really cool!
