Trip Report

AZ: Grand Canyon – Grand Canyoneering, Spring 2014

I haven’t posted any trip reports in a long time. A few pics made it to Facebook but I know a lot of folks don’t use it, so I wanted to try and share some of this years adventures. I get a lot of inspiration from pics and reports here so I hope I can give a little back. Its been a great year, starting with an epic 30 day Grand Canyoneering trip. Thanks again to Rich and Todd for the pioneering that made this trip possible, and thanks to AJ Pastula for his obsession in planning this one. Here are a few of my favorites. I will try to label them soon, but many are recognizable places. They will have to speak for themselves for now.

EPIC trip Evergreen Dean! Is Garden still bolted into submission? When I first did it there was only the mid wall station…when I went back a year plus later there were bolts above 8 foot mild down climbs. Someone went crazy with a drill. Perhaps since then someone has gone crazy with bolt removal tools?

Mr. Adam…I used the mid wall bolt station and stayed to the right of the waterflow in Garden no problem…not that one needs to stay out of the flow for safety or whatever, the flow is so mild, but for better footing I stayed to the right.

  • Awesome pics Dean! I need to get back to the big ditch soon!

Question, what anchor did you guys use for the second stage of the big rap in Garden Creek? If I remember correctly, the bolt for the second stage takes you directly down the water course and in the picture, the rappeller is quite a ways off to the right!
