CA: Sierras – Lower Jump Trip….

North Fork of Kings River July 26, 2014. 12 hours route time in the canyon for our group of 6 first timers. Water flow around 5cfs according to the gauging station. Around 20+ jumps up to 50′, numerous slides, long swims and several rappels to 135′. On a sad note, a member of our main group which was split, ran this the following day and suffered a broken ankle which required a helicopter rescue. Be on your guard the entire time if doing this canyon. The entire route has hazards, polished rocks, algae, underwater obstacles. Great outing but respect its challenges.

Here’s a quick video of the trip….full video to come soon!

Was just there last w/e! LOVE that canyon. Bummer about your friend needing a rescue Shane.

You got some really great photos!

  • He cleared it….placed that clip at the end for a bit of suspense….

  • Looks like fun.

Question: right at the very end of the vid, it looked like the jumper may not have actually cleared the rock right at the water level ???

Shane, thanks for the TR – nice shots and, uh…dramatic soundtrack on that video! I’m doing this one in a few weeks and getting stoked from all the fun images. Question about the one above: is the rappeller as far off fall-line as it appears? Looks like King Swing a-comin’

    • If you are referring to the 2nd photo, no, it is the fall line, just the angle of the photo makes it look that way. Lots of the anchors are on ledges to the side and the fall line is towards the watercourse at a 90 degree angle…if that makes sense…

Figured that was the case…amazing how perspective warps
