Trip Report

Canyoning in British Columbia (and Washington)

This is the summary of my week canyoning vacation to British Columbia. The original plan was to visit Vancouver Island, but we ended doing canyons in northern Washington instead.

  • Shane, unless massive rains hit, water might be quite low in Aug. Use Ropewiki Waterflow Analysis feature to get an idea of how much water may be flowing. Some of the canyons have posted reference pictures, those will give pretty good predictions of flow. For others it will be up to you to compare flow when we did them with what is the current status of surrounding rivers and come to your own conclusion.

If you can, please post reference pictures after your trip, so future visitors will be able to get even better flow predictions.

  • Thanks Luca I’ve been following your posts…I will be doing a few of those the week of August 9th. Any ideas which ones will still have decent amounts of water in them by then?

  • These are great canyons. The main reason for me to post this trip report was to inspire others that may have never heard of those canyons to run their own adventure there someday. If you plan go, make sure to connect with the locals. They are a small but growing group, very friendly and always welcoming. They have the facebook group Vancouver Canyoning https://www.facebook.com/groups/485642308115596/

Luca, I’m envious! From me (and others in the canyoneering community), many thanks for posting beta on ropewiki. I hope to follow in your foorsteps and do these canyons someday.
