Trip Report

Englestead canyon, June 27, 2019

Four of us did Englestead and down Orderville on June 27. Not sure if we were the first group through since the narrows opened. We met a group of two at the first rappel. They had a 200 foot rope and were planning to do the rappel in two stages, so we offered to let them use our 300 foot rope. There was quite a bit of flowing water on the first rappel. We were completely soaked by the bottom of it. Two of us had 4 mm wetsuits and put them on after the second rappel as we were pretty cold, and I am glad we did. There were ~3 pools of water in the canyon that were true swimmers, ie over our heads. Water was ice cold. Never seen that much water in Englestead.
All anchors are in good shape, we brought lots of webbing but didn’t need to change out anything.
We expected swimmers in Orderville, but the water never got more than knee deep. Lots of sand has filled in the pools.
Good flow in the Narrows, I rode the current a good portion of the way floating in my wetsuit.
Overall a great day!
