Trip Report

International – Vietnam Mix

[picture heavy, sorry for the long post.]

Hello, haven’t posted in a long time but just thought I’d share some pictures from our recent adventures. Been doing a lot of exploring recently, not too much technical canyoning yet, mostly just river tracing and non-tech adventures. However, we do have eyes on several more canyons in the next few weeks, a couple of which might provide some fun technical adventures. Thanks for looking!

“Cloud Creek”

This small creek loses lots of elevation quite quickly. The upper basically consists of one large falls that has a sketchy bypass on the LUC right. The lower section of this is likely to be a great technical adventure, and is quite high on our hit list.

Suoi Don Nhat

Next door to Cloud Creek. Basically a long series of waterslides for like half a kilometer. Nothing special but fun to walk up and down. Cool “shower” falls a ways up from the access point. More explorations to be had on the Lower part of this gorge.

“Big Danish Canyon”

The real jewel of the area. Several good waterfalls to rap, several good jumps, all in a day-trip friendly gorge with easy logistics and no people.

Suoi Tho

A tiny stream that has some fun low flow waterfalls to explore. Still more to be found upstream, as soon as we find a passage around the last falls pictured.

Thac Khe Ram

An access trail that drops halfway into the gorge allows for swimming/jumping below a nice falls and then a short romp out. There could be a super long, super intense upper stretch to this but it would need some serious patience and calm to get it done in one day.

And finally, “Fish Falls”. This is the very bottom of a limestone gorge that we didn’t expect to find. Saw it on a road trip and only had time to see the very bottom. There could be much more above here.

And that’s just the beginning of it. There are plenty of rivers and creeks here that are awaiting exploration. I’ll try to get a few more TR’s up here soon. Thanks for looking!

Not really much to add yet. I’ll start posting a few TR’s to my own personal website, and they can always shoot me a line for what limited beta I have but not much to post on a beta site yet I’m afraid. Once we get some more of the routes dialed and figured out I will post the beta for them, because I do want to see people enjoying them. Likewise, if your friend is looking for some canyoning trips or partners, tell him to look me up and I can likely offer a few exciting prizes for him. But for now a lot of the routes are only half-finished so I don’t want to post incomplete beta.

  • I have a friend that recently moved to Vietnam and was asking me about canyon info there. Are you planning to upload beta (locations, map, etc) somewhere? Would be nice if you could upload to http://ropewiki.com Thanks
