I spent last week doing a number of canyons around the UT/AZ border with some friends, but I also had some solo time to burn on some of the days. So I decided to wander up some canyons that have no name and are unbeta’d… found some cool little canyons. Some were absolutely pristine with no sign of humans, others had a little bit of vandalism to make it clear others had found their way into these places. Here are some phone snaps of the ones I visited just for fun.
The first canyon was carved in white sandstone, had some vandalism, and although I was able to stem and chimney my way quite a way up the canyon, progress was halted by a narrow corridor packed with spider webs. Here are some views in order heading up the canyon:
Canyon Two was a canyon that has most likely been descended, and we only got to the lowest dryfall before being stopped. The lower end of the canyon was full of rotten muck and mussels from the lake:
Canyon 3 was very interesting, intermittent narrows on and off with some nice scenic striations and undulations. I doubt very many people, (if anyone) has been here:
And the 4th and final canyon, was short and sweet. Very nice color in the rocks however upward progress was impeded by a dryfall that was possibly upclimbable, however due to being alone I didn’t feel like it would be a good idea to risk injury in such an unknown location, so I turned back, gleeful with the knowledge that there are still many, many, pristine canyons with very little sign of human impact hiding in the remotest corners of the Colorado plateau.
