Packraft Recommendations

The scout group I work with is interested in doing a canyoneering/packraft trip this summer. I’m looking for a canyon suitable for beginners that would involve at least a small section of packrafting. There will be experienced canyoneers in the leadership/adult, but the kids have only limited experience, so nothing too extreme. Any recommendations?

  • Black Canyon, AZ. Flat water with flow above AZ hot springs, and pretty much a lake below that to Willow Beach. A selection of easy canyons to choose from. Rick’s book Las Vegas Slots is helpful. Its a hot place best visited in winter or early spring.

I had considered that one, but given the trip will be at the first of July, thought it might be a bit too hot.

Pretty much any established packraft/canyoneering combo is going to be brutally hot in July. If its on the CP, its going to be hot.

I figured as much, but thought it was worth a shot to see if the collective experience in this group had any ideas I hadn’t considered.
