Yeah. I hear ya, the Stone knot was NOT a great rigging to use. I think that my buddy was just trying to be efficient and get down the rappel so he could start rigging the other drops after it. Anyway, he rigged it more like you would a Stone Knot in a fiddle stick, so there was only enough rope on the other side to tie a pull cord. Yeah…. made the conversion way more tricky than it needed to be.
What I think I would do next time is have my buddy tie the extra rope he was carrying with him to the bottom of the rope he was rappelling on, and then just pass the knot and rap the 30 feet. Then we would just set up the rappel correctly for the rest of the group. I think that would have been faster than us converting the rigging to a lower.
