I’ve recently modified my rap setup for canyoneering to be more similar to one I like for climbing. It is a piece of omnisling girth-hitched through the harness tie-in points. At the end of the sling is a locking biner and in the middle “loop” is my rap device w/ biner. One could do the same with a PAS or a sling with an overhand tied in the middle.
The idea is that it is both the rap extension and the tether. After you’ve weight-tested your setup you just unclip the tether locker from the anchor and then clip it onto your belay loop. Once off rappel I clip the rap biner to a gear loop and leave the end on the belay loop. To me this feels more streamlined on my harness. YMMV.
It seems that this is a well-known setup in some circles and unknown in others. It has been working well for me lately.
