Update on the Wollangambe Search:

This afternoon officers reached the remaining six canyoners who had spent an unplanned night in the canyon. They had met up with another group during the day. No injuries were reported and the group was walked out. It was determined the group had made little preparations for their trip. They had not told anyone exactly where they were going. They had little more than the clothes they were wearing, with no wetsuits, no emergency provisions and only limited navigational aids. There was essentially no canyon experience in the group.

With the canyon season well and truly upon us, police urge canyon visitors to consider their safety. Make the necessary preparations, including knowing the equipment and skills required for the intended trip. Ideally, go with someone who has completed the trip before. Carry emergency equipment, including a first aid kit, a PLB and warm dry clothing. And ensure a responsible person knows exactly where you are going, who you are going with and what time you plan to be finished.

(PLBs are a really good idea in Australia, because of the actually-deadly snakes – Tom).
