The St George News should be ashamed of themselves for publishing such nonsense.

Here is what the Zion National Park website says about the Subway top down route (it’s in the section where you reserve your permit):

This is a strenuous 9.5-mile hike that requires rappelling skills, 60 feet of rope, and extensive route finding experience. The route also requires swimming through several deep pools of very cold debris-filled water. The trail begins at the Wildcat Canyon Trailhead and ends at the Left Fork Trailhead. Both trailheads are located on the Kolob Terrace Road.

It sounds like fair warning to me.

While I was packing up our rope after the last rap in Mystery on Thursday, two members of the group that got lost came up to me and asked if we had just done Mystery. When I said yes, they asked if they had seen a group of three boys in there. I said no, and the dad got a little worried and asked me multiple times if it was possible to get lost in Mystery. He then told me about their experience in Subway and said that somehow they couldn’t find the entrance, and ended up doing a multi-stage rappel to even get into the canyon. It sounds like it didn’t improve from there. Hopefully his three boys dropped into the correct canyon when they tried to do Mystery…
