My friend Logan from CO was headed home after taking the Canyon Leader training course and was looking for partners to do stuff on the way so we decided to meet in Capitol Reef to do some canyons. Logan wanted to do Stegosaur and I hadn’t done it before so I said sure. I did a very quick once over of the beta and for some reason came away with the impression that the canyon would be a little bland, but hey any day in a canyon is a good day right?
Turns out that Stegosaur actually has a little meat on it, and while it isn’t the greatest canyon out there by a long shot, it was still quite a fun if short day with some very scenic hiking thrown into the mix.
The approach hike was a nice easy grade climb most of the way out there
Somehow I didn’t get a picture of the entrance to the canyon which is just on the other side of this saddle. There is a bolt station there, which is not necessary in my opinion. With a little care its an easy walk down into the canyon bottom
A good portion of the canyon is tight like this
This bolt is utterly useless
A rare pic of me in the background, Rob is the one in front
My brother steve on the final rap
Rob hurt his ankle on the hike out so he head home, but since it was only 3:15 pm when we got back to the car we decided to do one of the wives to kill some time
Rap 1 in Wife 1
Not a bad way to spend a Monday, unfortunately we missed the Pi day sale, they sold out about an hour before we got there.
