Trip Report

UT: Capitol Reef – Timpie and Fern’s Nipple 3/15/16

Day 2 of our trip started out nice, it wasn’t nearly as cold as I was expecting it to be, it never got below freezing and was low 40’s by the time we started hiking at 8:30.

This is why you don’t trust cairns, you end up going down stuff like this and then back up when you realize you’re in the wrong place

Our first destination of the day

Thats gonna be a big rock fall one day

Heading up Fern’s

This part is just a little scary when the wind is gusting and trying to push you over.

Group shot

Heading back down

My bro Steve about to head into the abyss

We re-rigged this with a courtesy anchor so that only lamar has to rap with the anchor just over the edge and the pull is very easy

I never get tired of hiking below towering shear cliffs of sandstone

Now to take my brother home since he has to be at work the next day. Oh well, that gives me a day to rest before heading back down on Thursday.
