UT: Ticaboo Mesa – Offshore Marina

Going to Lake Powell, and picking up your house boat? Need repairs done? If you have a spare hour, then the Offshore Marina Canyon works well. No ropes needed.

I had the chance to go explore it this last weekend. Seems a lot of people find this canyon, as there was a lot of graffiti on the walls. This day, however, was completely quiet.

A bit of a description. Less than a 5 minute walk from the main road at Offshore Marina (2-3 miles south of Ticaboo Resort), across the wash, there is a gentle canyon that branches to the left and right. I call this the “Offshore split”. By continuing up the right, you will eventually come to another split. This is the North and South Forks of Offshore Marina Canyon. We went up the North, and had a lot of fun through some upclimbs. After a few minutes, the first reasonable looking split to your right takes you to the South fork. The South Fork has an immediate 20′ downclimb, easily defeated with a careful slide and foot placement or two. The rest is easy going, and quickly meets up with the North Fork again.

If you want a bit more adventure. You can go to the “Offshore split”, and continue left. Climb to the top of another canyon system, work your way down to another branch that comes in from the south, then into the main canyon which I just called Onshore Marina. You will quickly come to a 25′ rappel. Cairn or sandtrap anchor would work. A really nice canyon, and only added about another 30 minutes or so to the trip. Great place to practice anchor skills, as you can retreat back the way you came if needed.
