Hey everyone!
So Saturday ensued with a friend of mine driving from Las Vegas to experience his first canyon in Zion. My other partner arrived with me the day prior in an attempt to get a permit so we could have an early start Saturday but flash flood warnings did not allow for this. Our third arrived early Saturday morning and we made it to the wilderness desk promptly at 0700 only to have the ranger, repeatedly tell us to cancel our trip, since he assumed we would be in the middle of the raps when the storm hit. Of course we did not listen to him and stated the hike at 0900. We were disappointed that there was no flow, which we knew would be the case but loved the water that remained. Below are a few pics throughout the trip snapped from the video we took.
Rob after the first couple rappels. Now completely hooked on canyoneering.
Rob and I looking on as Dave descends.
Enroute to MIA when the storm finally rolled in. A few loud thunder bursts and some rain made the walk enjoyable and cool. We decided to stay in our suits until the base of MIA, we remained pretty comfortable and cooled down in the pools along the way.
Ran into a couple of rattle snakes on the way and when I thought I would never find that spare tire I needed, bam there was a truck tire waiting for me in the canyon. I tried to convince Dave to pack it out but he was very unwilling. We are looking forward to Kolob again when there is some flow, until then we should be hitting up Imlay. Thanks again for all the trip reports and photos!
Final note…MIA is legit and make sure you have a pack that does not drain full of wet gear for the full effect.
