Saturday our group of @Tyler @Alene @April and I completed Misery Canyon in about 10 hours. We started at 8:20am and moved quickly while things were still cool and made it to the first rappel by 10am. The upper canyon was dry until we ran into a few small pools around the first arch room. We worked our way down canyon and ran into a few waist/chest deep pools around the double arch room. We made it to Parunuweap a little after 1:30 where we ran into @canyoncaper who happened to be backpacking the barracks. We spent two hours eating, filtering water, and soaking before starting the climb out at 3:30. The hike out wasn’t too bad (high 90’s) until we completely dried out near the teepees. Then it was a hot sandy slog up the pass near checkerboard followed by a shady downhill walk to the truck. By 6:15 we were in the truck headed back to the camp.

Thank you.
With the exit hike in mind I kept things light and packed the Panasonic Lumix GX1. I shot most of the photos with a Rokinon 7.5mm f3.5 fisheye and a few with a Lumix 14mm f2.5. No tripod, all hand held.

Very nice work! Something about the sky reflection in pic6 …a money shot or really sick canyon T logo!

Such a fun canyon. Wished I had chugged some Gatorade/salty things before heading out. My cramping legs were the worst I’ve ever had.

Bill – awesome set of photographs! It was fun watching you de-moss at the end of the canyon. I admit that by the time we got to Highway 9, I was confident that Misery was not worth seeing if I had to do that approach and exit — your pics have redeemed the canyon. Cheers!

What Felicia said. It was good to meet you guys. I hated the exit too, but had a probable cracked rib (remember scrambling around the waterfall, Felicia?) to add some spice. Your photos make me want to give it another try, as long as we go through Misery.

It was great meeting you.
We were pretty jealous of your trip through Parunuweap, I’m hoping to get that one on the calender here fairly soon.

Bill, I highly recommend the venture through the Barracks – it was awesome!

Fantastic! Love the pictures, and great job. I need to upgrade my camera and/or skills…
Just missed you by a week. Love this canyon. And the East Fork Narrows are just the icing on the cake at the end. This one is a keeper.
