It has been a few years since I have driven the Orderville Canyon jeep trail from the Corral down to the Cul-de-Sac. Last time, in my glorified station wagon, I got scared because on the hardest, steepest part it was quite narrow and had a ditch on one side; and if I fell into the ditch it was clear I would not be able to get out on my own, even WITH 4WD and big tires.
Times have changed, and so has the road. Went down there today to shuttle some peeps doing Orderville, and was very impressed by the grading job. The ditch was completely filled in, non existent, nyet, gonzo! There are still a couple soft, dusty, rocky, steep places. Once small ditch crossing the road at one point, somewhat filled in with rocks, on a steep stretch. So, still not an easy drive, still not an “escape pod” style road. Still recommend 4WD, high clearance and good tires, but… – with those things on your side, it is casual.
