Riding Shadows, is a short film produced from last summer’s Utah run. One of our team members, David Morring, is the producer. By profession, David is a creative director at The Richards Group in Dallas Texas. If you watch commercials, you have seen some of his work (bio). He plays around with amateur film production and was able to piece together 3 films from our daily – extremely amateur – camera shots.
David and I have been friends for a very long time. We managed to stumble through the teenage years together without killing ourselves; each possessing a passion for the great outdoors and adrenalin activities – our own AA group.
Riding Shadows was filmed the day before we left for home last year. It was a relaxing day where he captured the vertical mystique that keeps our group hungry to ride the nylon highway. The other two films, Meat Anchor and Canyon Drawls are in film festival queues, as such, I’m not permitted to offer them for public viewing.

that would be cool with a rack.. I can see why you would use a device like that on something so huge… the rappel looked very smooth.

that was a huge drop.. I can’t imagine ascending something that big with the setup I use.

I totally agree, for normal canyon ascending gear. That’s why when discussing ascending, I make a clear distinction between impromptu vs planned ascents – techniques, gear and systems.
We estimated the drop to be ~470′. Rigged with a 600 foot 10mm static rope. And we did obtain permission from the park’s “climbing ranger” in advance.

Please keep in mind that our group has been known to ham it up a bit at times. So as a disclaimer, the Jake Perry quote from the movie Sweet Home Alabama (2002) seems fitting – Jake: “Honey, just cuz I talk slow doesn’t mean I’m stupid.” (Although, the jury may still be out on that for some of us.)
