After an incident laden two day remote area canyon trip last week which saw me struggling on a 12 kilometre slog out with one injured leg and a damaged crash hat,I was happy yesterday to enjoy an easy day doing Serendipity Canyon. So Rod, Paul and I set off at a very civilised 10.00am and caught up with a commercial group at the first abseil. The guide, Paddy, kindly invited us to use his rope which he’d already set so we could pass. I haven’t done Serendipity very often, and the last time was several years ago and had forgotten how pretty it is. The abseils were straight forward, no surprises. Being early in the season, there was very little sign of human traffic and everything was so green. Although there was a nice flow of water and some swimming required, there was nowhere I would recommend jumping. I can’t compare the dynamics to previous trips as I just don’t remember how it was, but we all agreed that it was too cold to jump anyway and be submerged unnecessarily. After a pleasant interlude warming up on the lunch rock, the commercial group caught up so we set off on the relatively easy climb back up to the fire trail and back to the cars. A nice short day, excellent company and terrific weather. And only one brown snake on the way out.
A few photos ( which didn’t turn out as well as I hoped) http://imageevent.com/jburton/canyons/serendipity181011
