Beautiful in Zion today

Bruce the Bird Butcher came by and we wandered off to do the Subway. Totally beautiful out. Sunny, almost warm. Good temps for hiking. We took a newbie along to carry the rope, but he failed to do so. First couple of pools were quite chilly, after that considerably warmer. We went down, then back up, the yo-yo. Great crane action by Bruce and Chris at Keyhole Falls. Quite a hike out.

Well all I can say is I had a great time! I was willing to get brain freeze and swim under the arch in the 43 degree water but Tom didn’t want me to take the chance as a newbie. I could tell that Tom was nervous about me wearing a shorty wetsuit but I actually enjoyed the cold water, despite the frozen hands. It was an awesome experience, except for like mentioned previously, the hike out was painful, and still is. Thanks Tom and Bruce, you butcher! For some ameteur pics of the great hike and the beautiful weather look in the photos under Subway yo yo. CJ

No snow to be seen. The last two days of storms missed zion. A bit of ice on the pool at the Das Boot jump, but none seen otherwise. 4 parties in The Subway today. Flow in the main section was about half normal.

Plenty of rope, great fun. Yo yo Subway is good, but the hike out… not so good.

Wow! What an unusal March. Questions. Road open at Mahoney Hill? Was there or how much snow on the first flat mile? Lots of small streams on the slickrock descent? Any flow before the springs, part way down canyon? Rope forgot? Not enough webbing to get down Keyhole or the Subway drop? Too bad. Sounds wonderful. Being able to be in there on March 24th is remarkable. A treat! R
