BETA Goose Creek access to be allowed any time soon?

Does anyone know when/if access will be opened up to Goose Creek again? It’s been closed down for four years now. Wasn’t this going to be a five-year closure? Or am I mistaken?

Needless to say, I really really really want to do this canyon. Especially the direct route. Big-wall style rappelling… yum…

Any info would be appreciated.

Goose was worth doing but not A-list. Probably about 2 dozen better canyons in Zion. At least via the main entry. Also, the big wall entry is a bit contrived, better was the drainage entry. Not worth poaching, either, strictly from an aesthetic standpoint. You can wait for them to reopen it, you won’t be missing out.

    “Better” being relative…

Its a neat canyon system. We did 4 raps to get in, then 6 in the canyon itself.

Never does the Heaps or Imlay rap and swim multiple narrows water holes type thing. More of hiking interspirsed with the occasional rappel. Some tricky sections. Neat foliage. Some swimming.

Its been designated as Zion’s RNA (Research Natural Area) and isn’t scheduled to be open to the public again anytime soon…

Bummer. Could have picked a remote mesa top and a less-travelled canyon like Coral Hollow. Goose Creek is neat, along the lines of Kolob Canyon (without the multi-in-a-row type rap’s).

I haven’t done Goose, but have heard Imlay and Kolob are better anyway. Comments?

Better buy some black jamies for canyoning Ninja style because I don’t think Goose will be on the permit list anytime soon.
