That’s Scott Smith on the final rap in Selvagem, one of our favorite canyons during the international rendezvous in Delfinopolis, Brazil this April. The destination – 9hrs from Rio / 6hrs from São Paulo – worked out well for the rendezvous: a series of quartz canyons cutting in parallel through a plateau near town, friendly locals, fun international attendees, the week was well organized by the Brazilians, and we caught a glimpse of a giant anteater crossing a dirt road at night before it ducked into a sugar cane field.

Quartzite – metamorphosed sandstone, very, very hard. Lots of climbing in Big Cottonwood Canyon (SLC) on quartzite.
