I have seen several burros in the wild. They seem to travel in pairs and are quite affectionate toward each other. Nuzzling and playing etc.. Heard tell that they mate for life. Anyone know if that is true? How long have they wandered free in the West? Love those domesticated animals that get free and then thrive. Sad story below.
Forest Service law enforcement officers are trying to track down the killers of nine wild burros near Williams.
Investigators say all nine apparently were cornered and deliberately shot. The animals’ remains were found about eight miles northwest of Williams. Investigators with the Kaibab National Forest believe the killings occurred about three weeks ago. There was an elk hunt in that area of the forest at the time. Investigators say there is no indication of a motive other than cruelty. They’re hoping hunters or people in the area saw suspicious activity or have some information that could lead to suspects. http://www.azcentral.com
