As of last Saturday, The road to Lava Point is packed snow but 4×4 passable. Lava Point had 6 inches of snow. The gate down to the west rim is closed. The West Rim had an inch of snow and became muddy as the sun came out. The Upper Left Fork had a thin sheen of ice but the Subway was in pristine condition, free from the summer droves.
It looks like after tomorrow, it may all change. A storm is on the way.

Did you hike the trail out of the Lava Campground or did you just walk the road. Do people know that shortcut? Probably not such a shortcut in 6 inches of snow 😉
