Recently revisited a couple of classic hikes in the Zion area that I hadn’t done in several years. First, on June 2nd hiked Canaan Mt. to the windlass via Water Canyon. This is really a SW classic with stunning views. The weather was great, a little windy and cool, but perfect for this hike. Second, on June 8th I made my fourth trek to Bridge Mt. Arch. While I haven’t done anywhere near all there is to do in Zion, of the things I have done I consider this hike to be the most difficult. For scenery this route is one of the best, plus it adds route finding, scrambling, a short climb, and a beautiful arch at the end. I saw more signs of travel then I remember from years past, but regardless there seems to be much more vegetation with the wet winter we have had. Also due to the moisture I believe a case could be made for renaming Hepworth Wash something along the lines of Mosquito Alley. The cactus was blooming all over the area but was particularly abundant on the west side of Hepworth. All in all it was a great hike.
