Dead Cow in Little East Pasture Canyon in Robber”s Roost

There was a dead cow blocking the exit of Little East Pasture Canyon yesterday. The cow blockage caused a pool that had a blanket of squirming maggots on the top of inky black water. The guys were convinced we would have to go to the emergency room if we waded/swam through the pool. I was convinced I’d smell the rest of my life. Since there was no way to stem or climb around it we had to reverse the canyon including a 25ft rap with a 7ft? hole at the bottom. Going up canyon was strenuous but the right thing to do.

To reverse the rap Marie braced Trevor so he wouldn’t fall into the hole. I climbed on Trevor’s shoulders. Then Todd climbed on Trevor’s shoulders and I climbed on Todd’s shoulders. Then Todd slowly stood up. It was freaky but it worked. I could get into the easier flute further up the rap and climb the last 10ft. I attached the rope to the rap anchor and everyone jumared up. Trevor and Marie had never jumared before so Todd gave them a crash course. Only their 5th technical canyon but these guys are solid. Everyone worked together to use their best skills. I for one think great spotting is key.

Trevor is going to call BLM about the cow.

From Trevor – Our Tax Dollars at Work

Sent out several emails last night and got an email response and a phone call his morning from BLM. After sending some maps and GPS coordinates, Myron, is on it and is going to work on getting that cow out of there! Yeah! Even so, lets stay away from this canyon for at least a year
