Deer Creek Wyoming

Some of you might remember me exploring Deer Creek in WY, outside of Yellowstone. I had partially lost interest when hiking up from the bottom and not seeing anything too technical. But I was talking to a kayaker that lives up there and he says the waterfall we turned around at is actually one of the smaller ones. http://photos.imageevent.com/jumar/deercreek/websize/dcfalls2.jpg

Coming from the top down, he said, “The waterfall photo you have is one of the easy drops there is some much more serious stuff above, for the most part when you get to this water fall you have a little relief from all of the techinical stuff. dont get me worng this drop is very serious but the stuff above is just different”.

So my interest in that canyon has been rekindled! Too bad we’re in a flood year. The canyon is likely impassable right now, even for kayakers.

Given I don’t have much swift water canyon experience, I haven’t committed to descending the canyon from the top. Any of you “hard cores” going to be up in the WY area this fall when the waters gone down? I’d love to do it sometime soon, but don’t want to get in over my head.

Some video of kayaking in Deer Creek and other rivers nearby. http://www.coldfear.com/images/Coldfear%20Kayaking.wmv
