G’day folks,
A decade on FreezeFest has not only grown in size, it’s now gone international. Julie Burton has been lobbying for a while — unsuccessfully — to get an Australian version happening. Last weekend it finally did!
There were only seven of us, five each day, and the first day was only a little wet as we acclimatised to it, but we did manage to throw down the gauntlet by taking things further that the US FreezeFest has (although I’m prepared to be proved wrong). On the second day, three of us went completely nude through the multiple swims and raps of a rather chilly canyon. By the end even those in wetsuits / thermals / beanies etc were extremely cold, but it was still an absolute blast.

Hopefully we’ve managed to get the ball rolling enough that the “bad idea that caught on” might take root in Australia too!

Marvelous! Thanks Tim, great job. what were your air temperatures for the nude swims. It looks downright balmy out there. There are only a few canyoners that I would actually want to see naked. Add to that suspended in a harness and exiting from freezing water and the list, and dangly bits, gets even smaller.
