GEAR~Petzl Headlamps and batteries(Li no good?)

The last time I used my Petzl Tikka Plus Headlamp it heated up to an alarming extent after a couple of hours and now two of the LEDs are burned out(they look brown and don’t function).The only thing that was different is that I was using Energizer E2 Lithium cells. Are these batteries not good for a headlamp? Am I destroying my Petzl Tikka XP by using Lithium batteries? Thanks Dave
