I’m looking for a volunteer canyon guide to help with a youth group trip to Utah. It is an outdoor group at Garfield High School, Seattle, WA (www.post84.org). They have been doing canyoneer trips to Utah since about 2002. Last year and this year my friend Marshall, who helps guide, has been in Thailand so we need someone with canyoneering experience to help out this year. The post is associated with (and insured by) the Seattle Mountaineers (www.mountaineers.org).
We will be canyoneering in Utah from March 29 to April 2nd. That will probably be 4 days of canyoneering with one day of moving camp and goofing off. In the past we have done moderate canyons in the North Wash area, Mainden Water, and in the Swell Ding, Dang, Baptist Draw to Chute, Music, and Quandary. Generally canyons rated to 2, maybe 3, minimal water, and grade II to III. You can see photos from past trips on my web site at:

We are looking for someone who has a good base of outdoor experience including climbing and canyoneering, good safety awareness, and experience leading groups of less experienced participants.
Aside from the canyoneering, the trip is mainly run by the students. There will be 3 other adults, parents or teachers, who are generally more experienced with the social supervision aspects and who have ranging amounts of outdoor experience. Our roll will be to choose appropriate canyons and a mix of guiding and instruction.
Most days we split into two groups. You will be responsible for a group of 6 students and one or two adults.
In compensation you’ll be provided with transportation, food, open air lodging, and a chance to hang out with some interesting and motivated high school students. The post can probably compensate you for reasonable expenses transporting yourself to and from Utah.
