Nice photo! I showed it to my son this a.m. and he said, “Those guys are CRAZY!”. That’s high praise from a teenager. You should be proud of yourselves.

Nah, my friend Dwight. Fun day, very much quicker than anticipated. Lady Mtn approach is a beauty.

Summitting the Lady is a highlight, yes. That spot you landed was cool too. We landed 10 minutes higher and the slot above that looked better than anything else in the neighborhood. Now finding a reasonable angle to get to the top of the slot section, on rappel? It looked narrow enough to scare me, at a little distance, which, for Zion, is quite unusual. There was that nice rap in the middle of the canyon. Pretty spot and the big wall finish!!! You start the 545 foot headwall with 150 foot downclimb at class 3 and some 4, with the world below you. Exciting spot. And some of those ancient bolts! You remember what they were? For a wall that big, there was only that 200 ft rap right in the middle, for big drops. That final short rap into the jungle at the end was wild too. Fun ending up in the Court of the P’s. An interesting and different day. R

Great Home Page photo of an obscure canyon. Brian will land on a chockstone, with a false bottomed cave behind him, or nearby anyway. The infrequently done canyon, while quite dirty and not destined for classic status, brings back some fond memories of some fine positions. Not sure who did the canyon with Brian. Was it the Kipster? Yuck, yuck. Must have hit you in the collorbone area. What was your style of icebreaking? Elbows slamming down on the ice, while swimming?

The long term forecast is in for the first 2 days. Day time temps about the same and nightime down about 10 degrees from TurkeyFest. That is quite OK. Fingers crossed for the rest of it. Ram

yeah. It was a little surprising to be swimming along at full tilt, desperate to get out of the freezing water, only to be stopped at mid chest by swimming into an invisible barrier (water had slopped up on top of the ice).

Have fun at freeze fest I’ll be toasty warm with my cocoa and a high forecast of 78 degrees

Har, har. So you swam into icebreking duty? It’s not so bad (Except on shins) if your not in water over your waist. Surprised you didn’t greet our heros with ice frisbees when they came around the corner 😉 R

They made me slide the rope first, the sly dogs. They were wondering what all the mumbling was (twas me cussing at the ice), and then they heard the *crunch*crunch*crunch* as the ice breaking duties commenced. The water was not frozen at the bottom of the rap – however the canyon takes a bend, and down the corridor where it widens out, it was frozen over.

Heehee. Did you do the ice breaking duties, or did you delegate to Todd or one of his minions? I recognize the suit your in. Now that is what it was designed for, not that scrappy crap!! A day playing icebreaker is better than a day at work, for sure. 😉 Ram PS A pal of yours told me where it was…but I ain’t tellin who or where. Not Arizona, of course.
