Hwy 12 – Utah scenic highway project progresses

Our tax dollars at waste…

“construction could take up to a decade to complete”

Cedar City » Earth movers, steamrollers, graders and ubiquitous orange barrels will sprout along one of America’s most scenic highways once a proposed project for State Route 12 in southern Utah starts rolling.

Planned improvements for a 2-mile piece of the 26-mile national scenic byway between Escalante and Boulder in Garfield County will widen and straighten sections of the road and add turnouts, although some feel the changes are unnecessary and could ruin the bucolic character of the winding, two-lane highway.

I noticed the one local perspective was rather moderate on the issue. Did they have local public hearings on the issue? Does anyone have first hand knowledge on the various local opinions on the proposal?

  • On the contrary, I hope they do widen the road from Escalante to Boulder. I know its scenic but have you ever got caught there sandwiched between 10 touring bikes and a couple of RV’s? It is a beautiful road but its really dangerous during the busy months and even more dangerous when its icy. No sholders, no guardrails. I can thing of better things to fight for. I would be willing to comprimise with at least a bike path. Homegrown

Oh, so now you’re siding with SUWA? I never thought I’d see the day.

You pinkos are all alike. Anything to thwart progress.
