Why is there a link to someone’s private business on the Homepage?
Now that Rich has clarified that the ACA is his own private business, it think it is CrAzY that WE, the Canyons Group, provide him with a valuable business resource for free, that we do not provide other businesses.
May I suggest that the Moderators remove this link IMMEDIATELY.
My personal opinion is that it should have been removed years ago, or months ago, but it certainly has no place on the homepage now.
If you want a replacement, it could say: “For more information on Canyoneering, Google ‘Canyoneering’.”

I was going to stay out of this and I should have stayed out. I am just sick of it all. The right decision was made, not that my opinion os worth much. I like Rich’s new company name. I like Tom’s website and the links are all located well and easy to get to. I am in Argentina drinking too much beer and reading email when I should be looking for canyons to play in. Or at least trying to learn to tango.
Are we done with this topic once and for all?

I don’t think it qualifies me for a valuable link on the Group’s homepage.

Yes, I do know what an ass he can be and at the same time I think that the service he is providing is very valuable to the community. Those most vocal seem also to be in the “canyoneering business” and seem to be taking his success personally. At least that is how it sounds on this forum.
I am all for this eventually being handled by anyone who wants to create the “association” they think should be in existence. So… Get after it… But until then I think we are doing the general community a disservice but trying to tear down what we currently have.
I say that we in this community can decide as a community if we think Rich and his ACA should be easily accessible to other members. Why don’t the moderators set up a poll/survey and let’s vote on it. I don’t like the idea that a few disgruntled think they can push his website to another location just because they think so. Let’s decide this the old fashion way… And vote on it. It will also help all involved to find out just what the rest o us think about this.
Thanks,

My lack of response is because I agree with the actions of the moderators. I see no reason to clutter everyone’s inbox. Also, it is only Monday – many weekend warriors are still catching up with their inbox backlog.
Does anyone disagree with: no private businesses listed on the homepage?

Its a private business now even by Rich’s words. Has nothing to do with personal opinions of his program. If we are going to open up private businesses being linked on the front page then every other business should get equal treatment.
I am not in the canyoneering business any longer.

Rich, there is a major flaw in your logic.
For years you have been spewing lies and twisted information about anyone that publicly disagrees with you…. and yet no has perceived your lies and twisted information as fact. So how do you explain that?
Thank you, I’ll hang up now and listen to your answer on the air.

The Moderators have resolved this issue by re-directing the link to the Canyons Group Links page, where all comers are treated on an equal basis.
Thank you.

Why premature? You just admitted the ACA is your private business, you didn’t take that acronym by accident.
The Association was fundamentally your business: no member-based elections for the BOD, no transparency, no accountability to the community and the only registered officers happened to all have the last name Carlson. How is that not a personal business (which can have elements of altruism like you showed at moments)? Especially considering you weren’t even recognized as a non-profit or corporation for the last 2 years? Your own responses and statements have led to this conclusion; whats the difference between a non-democratic association registered in one person’s name (and his wife’s) and a private business?
I support removing the link to eliminate favoritism from the site. Should I repeat that a few more times to make it true?

The American Canyoneering Association was never my personal business. The American Canyoneering Academy IS my personal business.
I have had the honor and privilege of serving thousands of canyoneers over the past 21 years. I will serve thousands more over the years to come. Very proud of what I have accomplished. What I have hated is this political BS — money, egos, personal agendas, liars, posers and frauds.
Delete the link. But it might be a bit premature.

When an actual Association takes shape, it can be linked to on the home page.
