I have wanted to get into canyoneering for years but have never known any experienced canyoneers to go with. I STILL dont but this summer Im determined to get into it anyway.
I am looking for a group that wouldn’t mind taking me along for a trip. I have a helmet, harness, ATC, and caribeener. I have been canyoneering before and have a lot of outdoor experience. I’d really appreciate some help from somebody – whether its an invitation to a canyon trip or a suggestion on how to get hooked up with one.
Thanks!

Adam,
Welcome and hope you have a good experience getting into the sport.
Never seen a noob get invited to an outing on one posting. So My advice (remember – you get what you pay for ) is as follows:
1. Buy a canyoneering intro book to get familiar with the basics. It was Tom Jones “Zion Canyoneering” book that got me into the sport http://canyoneeringusa.com
2. Learn to rappel safely at your local indoor climbing gym on a variety of rope sizes – single and double strand as no one wants to get stuck in a canyon with someone who doesn’t know how to rappel
3. Learn your basic knots
4. Get in shape if not already to be able to hike for several miles
5. Head out to Zion and either take a intro class or if you are comfortable – do the basic canyons like Subway, Keyhole, etc
6. Post more messages to this group but be specific in dates, times available, fitness level and basic competency (see above)
GOOD LUCK!
Joe
