In the process of getting the ducks in-line for our upcoming ZNP trip I’ve determined that a longer rope(s) is needed.
Anytime I purchase rope I try to consider the length that will not only suffice for current plans but open up future opportunities as well. In some cases it isn’t 1 length but rather multiple lengths, i.e. two (n) length ropes to do x. This trip we have permits to do Behunin and/or Telephone and the drops (from what I’ve been able to determine) may stretch the length of ropes in inventory. Thinking about adding a 300′ length which I believe would more than compensate for these, just don’t want to over-kill unless it make good sense for the future. Although we aren’t planning on Heaps, Imlay or Englestead on this trip they’re in the bucket list and want to make sure that we’re properly gearing up.
We currently have canyoneering ropes in the ranges of 50, 100 and 150.
Thanks, kuenn

A 300′ rope is only required in a very few places, such as Heaps and Engelstead. Even then, options exist (at least for Engelstead).
If you added a 200′ rope to your inventory, I think you would be golden for the canyons suggested, and many others. Matched with your 150 foot rope, you are then capable of doing raps up to 175′, though it might take some careful adjusting to get there. Or bring along 25′ piece of cord so you don’t have to do the adjusting.

A 300 fiit rope can be a bear to carry, especially tight slots or swimming. Also deploying a 300 foot rope can be hassle. If you have 2-200 foot ropes you can use them seperately or tie them together and still do a 200 foot rappel.
