Hi,
I’m Barry.
I live in Dallas (sorry about that) and am trying to find a group that would be doing some technical slot canyon outings this upcoming Spring, summer of fall.
I’m looking for 4-5 days of canyoneering with a small group.
I considered trying to organize my own local group, but the Dallas Sierra Club wont help me (liability reasons). I have also contracted the local moutaineering group but have not heard back from anyone interested.
I might post a message on the local REI stores bulletin boards to see if I can recruite some people that way.
Assuming that doesnt work, I’m looking for some people that I could hook up with.
My dream trip would be 4-5 days in Yosmite, but I’d consider anything. If have considered hiring a guide, but it is very expensive for one person.
Outings around Moab is another possiblity. My parents live outside Grand Junction so I could fly into there.
I have rock climbing experience and did Echo Canyon in Yosmite last year with my daughter. I have gear. I’m trying to keep expenses low (camping out) since I’ll have to fly.
If anyone knows of other resources or canyoneering groups that do multi-day trips, please let me know. I’ve searched the Utah and Nevada Sierra Club website but I don’t see any multi-day canyoneering outings listed. Are there other organizations I can contract?
My e-mail is barryastevenson@yahoo.com.
Any ideas would be welcomed.
Thanks, Barry

This is the place and folks often take on folks on their trips. There are also some Rendezvous’ available. I know you are looking for small groups, but a trip or two in the rendezvous format gives you the opportunity to meet like minded folks, that you develop a chemistry with, for future trip partnerships.

While there are a couple of canyon descents I am aware of in Yosemite and more canyon venues nearer to Fresno, Yosemite is more noted for tech climbing and backpacking. Possibilities exist, but the more classic fare is in Utah and Arizona

Good stuff to do there, but more in the day trip variety

What was Echo Canyon in Yosemite like?

Are you looking for full pack hikes thru canyons or hikes back to remote areas and day trip slots from there? There are many overnight options in the 2-5 day range too (longer if one wanted to), thoughout Utah and Arizona, but it is difficult too, as overnight packs often must include wetsuits and accesseries, plus tech gear and ropes, in addition to other standard overnight gear. It can get heavy. With a bit more info, folks here will have an easier time helping you tailor an experience to fit your ascetic. Zion and Escalante offer the most options, I am guessing
