Does anyone know or has also seen little worms, about the width and length of a spaghetti noodle in a Zion canyon before? I was in Misery Canyon last Tuesday, and in a STILL motionless shallow little pothole about the size of a garbage can lid, we observed a worm like creature swimming around. It was light grey in color and was about 18 inches long. We wondered what it was, and assumed there were more where that one came from, particularly in the larger potholes.
Anyone know what this was? Thanks. Kerry

Oops. I spoke to soon. I guess they are commonly called Horsehair Worms. Here’s a picture that was taken in Orderville Canyon: http://tinyurl.com/2qjt88 Google “Horsehair Worms of Zion” and there’s plenty to see. Dave

I’ve heard them called Threadworms but they are probably some other kind of freshwater Nematode(which is to say a Roundworm). I’ve seen them in Subway potholes and they were redish-brown and thin as a thread. Dave
