After reading the backbacker mag story of the Grand canyon trip I have been born again, and believe in nuts, knots, and duck tape. > Cheers > Ski
Halleluiah, halleluiah, halleluiah. ;-) Good to hear from ya Ski!! Seems you have had a religious experience? ;-D Watch out for the duct tape though! Tricky stuff. Thanks for helping to point out the nuance and differences each of the Plateaus many venues. That the limestone in the Grand Canyon has a massive amount of cracks that take knot chock anchors readily and safely. Often one only needs to use very little webbing to make a safe anchor that is easy to pull ropes from. Sometimes its hard to find the established anchor, as unobtrusive as they are. AND with such easy solutions, one is spared the nightmare of drilling in limestone. The park service has been visionary at this venue (Grand Canyon) and I applaud them and Ski. Have a great time Ski. Man, I would want to be in the cool of Das Boot over Russell this time of year. I sure do love Russell in October though. What a colorful place it is. ram

When in grand canyon, I highly recommend taking a nut cleaning tool along. We came across a couple knot or rock chocks that the webbing had been damaged, but the anchor had been through a flash and was solid. Much easier to work on with a nut tool than a stick…

It’s all about pull vectors.
