Here’s something new: a prototype of a new type of “special-for-canyon” descender. I posted a picture of it on the “photos” album.
It’s called a “De-Jump” and has 3 moving parts – it’s designed to be releasable even when under tension (something that those who ever got stuck under a waterfall will appreciate) – I suppose also good for an easy “floating disconnect”.
Seems that Kong bought the contract and will produce it in the spring of this year – wonder what the definitive version will look like and who gets to try it out first ?

The guy with the new descender/ascender design should contact me. He likely qualifies for a $20,000 prize competition for such a product designed in so. Utah.  Cheers,  Curt

Yeah, it’d be cool to have a device that pops off the rope with a flip of a lever, even under tension. I wonder how easy it will be to accidentally disconnect?

It’s not mine, I haven’t got a clue if or how it works, I don’t know the inventor(s), I don’t have any shares in Kong…. I’m just pointing out a new toy still in development…snif…
By the looks of it, the device works on a similar braking principle as an 8, but the middle axle can swivel away ? I think (hope) the final product might look a bit different because the lever to open it looks sharp-edged enough to be painful and the holes below the axle are too narrow for double ropes.
I’ll try to dig up some more – and get my hands on one !

Dear Koen, If it is to the point that you are posting a picture you must already have a patent so share with us how it works, what you were trying to accomplish with designing a new rap device and how yours does it better than anything else on the market.
