North Wash over Thanksgiving

Back from a long weekend in the North Wash. Perhaps the best scenery I have ever seen (low sun angle, fallen leaves). Great weather, except for a 3 hour ~50mph windstorm on Friday night. The amount of water in canyons is normal to low I would say (Shenanigans, Fooling Around). Very few people around, saw one other group in the distance hiking out of Butler forks. The roads are as usual or better.

    Ram,

I was last in Shenanigans in October 2008. This time no water to speak of (did we stem over something small?) until the final subway chamber and there seems like less water than I remember. Easy walk out on the ledges on the left (the ledge is 1-2 inches under the surface). I am around 155 lb and did not have much of a problem squeezing through. I seem to remember in 2008 it was more exciting Everyone else was smaller so they didn’t even stop to think.

Fooling Around also had probably less water than I remember in September 2009. The water logged slot was deeper then. I knew I could go low immediately and that squeeze was more exciting than the rest. Then one short swim and we are done.

The middle fork of Leprechaun (first time) was dry and… why did we haul a rope?? Some webbing for the initial handline would have sufficed. Too short a day even in November, so we added a climb to a high point.

Sunday was the Horseshoe/Grand Gallery hike (everyone a little scraped and tired of 2-dimensional places). I think this is the best time to do that, cool and quiet.

That first pool in Shenanagens was mostly dry? That surprises me. How did everyone find the 4th narrows. I remember hearing that conditions were tough in there with more sand making it hard for people who usually glide thru. Folks in the 160-170 lb range.
