I just got off the phone with the backcountry desk, talked to a real person too !
The burn was set off this morning and the access to upper Subway is CLOSED. The ranger didn’t know for how long, a few days at least so Thursday and Friday Upper Subway trips are shut down for sure, need to check back for Sat/Sunday.
She did say that Subway from the bottom is OPEN. So those with permits will be able to do the hike up, but not the canyoneering from the top.
I asked if any other canyons were closed, she said Telephone Canyon trail (don’t know that one) and some hiking trails for maintainance, but that was all.

Upper Telephone canyon is a shortcut from the junction at the top of the rim where the spring is to the west side about where it rejoins the West Rim Trail near the isthmus. This area was burned in August and was closed when we hiked from the upper West Rim Trailhead (by Lava Point) to Heaps in mid September.

Heaps a long way yes, but easy on the body with little ascent going from up top. Imlay? Go from the top anyway. What 4-5 miles to the canyon head in Potato Hollow, from Lava? Behunin? It can wait 😉 Ram ___________ GO ROCKIES!
