—————- I am a student at Warren Wilson College in Asheville NC. I am currently studying anthropology and sociology and as a part of my being able to graduate I am expected to conduct a senior research paper. This summer I hiked the Long Trail up in Vermont with a few friends and fell in love with long distance hiking. So when i got to school and was confronted with a need to pick a topic for my senoir anthropology paper I quickly decided to do an ethnography on long distance hikers. This means that I am going to conduct a study that examines what it means to identify oneself as a long distance hiker as well as how and why people decide to go on long distance hikes. In order to do this study I need to conduct a number of interviews, and I was wondering if you would be willing to partake in an interview via email. As of now the interview that I have written up is very general, but if you were to partake, I would possibly want to start a dialogue with you through emails in order to understand more about what it means to be a hiker. Any response would be greatly appreciated.
