pack flotation (and shaing trip report)

Does anyone deliberately take empty soda bottles to provide positive pack flotation – for those swims, etc?

And a big THANKS to the author for that trip report about passing the knot etc – shared wisdom is painless (for me) – I like that.

Negative. Leave air in your drybag and you should be good to go in any scenario.

Using a standard dry bag for my gear or a Canyon keg has always given me plenty of float.

Now, assuming you don’t have one of Imlay Canyon Gear’s really super cool Rope Silos. How do you keep your rope afloat on the cheap? For a price I’ll tell. Oh well, I’ll tell for free. Tying two floats made for water ski lines into the bottom of a lessor rope bag will keep it floating, rope and all. Typical water ski line float sells for about $1.80 @ Wally World. (2 per bag)

I did once but like Jeff said, takes up too much space. I tend to blow up my camel pack. That along with my dry bag has worked every time. Gota try the kick board for the canyons with long swims. Sounds like a good idea.

    BLADDERS BLADDERS BLADDERS

I always use a camelbak (or a 10liter dromedary bag when looooots of swims) don’t fill it all the way and blow em up before a long swim. If the pack is small enough, you can even wear it backwards as a PFD

**and yes I suppose in an extreme emergency in a true “keeper” hydro it would give you 2 or 3 last breaths before dying….
