Has anyone been on the road to Chamberlain Ranch recently? If so can you please comment on the conditions? 4×4 required? High clearance needed? I’ve heard it can vary quite a bit but have never been on it. We are going into the narrows next week and it doesn’t look like any rain between now and then so I hope the conditions wouldn’t change.
Thanks in advance,

That’s pretty much what I figured, thanks all for the info.

Thanks Bryan. Pretty sketchy indeed. Especially in section from Ponderosa to Orderville, there is much clay in the road and while one my go “rutting” there, one can easily go sliding right off the road. AND there is some huge drops off the side. This comes into play often at “car/shuttle retrieval” time in the afternoon. Sometimes its just prudent to leave the car up there until the next day. 😉 Ram

Here is the weather forecast for that area and it shows a 20% chance of rain through Thursday. If that’s the case that road can get beat up bad with deep ruts. I’ve been on it multiple times in the rain in a high clearance 4×4 and even then, it’s pretty dang sketchy.

In the summer, except for massive thunderstorms which may take a few days to dry out, the North Fork Road to Chamberlain Ranch can be counted on to “be itself”. Generally OK for 2WD family sedan, but HIGHLY washboarded, and unpleasant in said 2WD sedan. Big tires, bigger vehicle ride over that stuff much better. I have seen people in “passenger cars” taking two hours or more from Springdale to CR, and in tears.
Bigger, more off-road vehicles recommended, though not really needed. Many people arrange a shuttle, and find it worth the money. (ZAC 435-772-0990)
