does anyone know if the Meanstreak Marking Stick made by Sanford Corporation is safe to use with our ropes? I noticed that it comes in different colors which would be good since we have many different color ropes that we use.
If not what are the names of the ones you are using?
thanks

Yup,that’s exactly it.The phenol is damaging to the rope. The T.E.C. is certified in that they actually say that they are consistent with their ingredients and that there’s no phenol.Hank answered this a while back,so if you do a search in the archives you could probably come up with his original comments…it was just a few months ago.

One problem with some markers was that they contained phenol which is a strong acid and strong acids damage nylon.

Blue Water makes a black rope marker that seems very common. I’m currently using a T.E.C. (trace element certified) marker from Sharpie. The TEC sharpies tend to be a bit more $ (and harder to find) but I think the ink is more water resistant than the Blue Water version. YMMV.
