Site closed, gear and dogs missing

Thanks, but it may be too late. Since the kids abandoned the site early this AM, someone with an earth mover came by, deposited several 500 pound boulders across the road closing this BLM site that has been in use for decades. A walk in by the fella caring for the dogs show Aaron’s megamid (mine actually) and all of his gear gone!! How much gear and what I won’t know until he gets out of the Subway today. This keeps getting stranger. Anyone know the BLM phone number for area around the Kolob Terrace Road in Washington County??

Yeah, weird how this idyllic trip of his suddenly took such a macabre turn. Cujo’s returned from the dead.

Thanks for the plug, Ram. It’s been a busy season for me in Zion. 15 new peaks for the second Zion guide, including two that have been lingering on my must-do list for far too long. I’ve also been humbled by a couple of failures.

Yang-yin; up-down.

I’m off to the high mountains now. Will return to Zion in the fall.

We managed to get past the condescending Milt at BLM St. George and confirm that the site is BLM land. We have found out that BLM did not authorize the blocking of their primitive campsite, though the top guys at the Cedar city regional office. Our contacts helping the BLM get canyon information for potential SAR”s had us jump past many hoops to the folks in the know. As for what unauthorized entity blocked the road, guesses range from a private individual to Washington County Roads. I have worked my way back to the sheriff to pursue these avenues. Maybe a friend swung by and picked up the gear reading this, this AM? Or Aaron did not do what he said he would and got it himself this AM? Ummm, not holding my breath.

The Rottweilers have moved up the road to the Sunset Ranch and owner Wynn is not thrilled with the interaction with his stock. This may have a bad ending soon. Thank you to Andy for doing all this road work for us.

BLM regional is pretty upset with the “new” landscaping. Its all just too weird.

He suggested the Sunset Ranch may own it and our pal is going there to check it out. In the mean time I have a call in to the Washington County Sheriff Deputy that patrols that part of the county, to make a report and see what can be done, beyond crying and the boy being forced home…….

Deputy Cashin just called and he says it IS a BLM primitive campsite unless it has changed hands recently and he is calling the LE sheriff for the area who he thinks will know one way or the other. He was sympathetic and seems very supportive. He promises a call back soon. Sigh

I can go get your gear Ram.  I’ll take care of the hell hounds while I’m down there as well.  Just say the word and I’m in the car!

Yeah, weird how this idyllic trip of his suddenly took such a macabre turn. Cujo’s returned from the dead.
