I did Pine Creek solo on 5/19, and only remember one swim spot – the cool chamber. There was enough water to warrant a wetsuit though. I run hot, so I only used a 3/2 farmer john (no top) and was fine.
Hope it helps, A.J.

Hey Ram,
Yep, got back at 6:30am this morning. Playing catch up now. 500+ personal e-mails, and 600+ work e-mails. Ugh.
The Escalante part of the trip was fun. Here’s the cliff notes version of the entire trip:
Thursday night 5/18, joined Ram and crew.
Friday, didn’t get on the heaps trip. Maybe permit and they were worried since nobody had done any canyons with me before. No worries, I completely understand. I soloed Echo and Pine Creek. Fun canyons.
Saturday, climbed West temple with them. Long, exposed and fun climb. Great views.
Sunday, full left fork. Started on West Rim trail, dropped into Hammerhead, down right fork a little, up a shoulder, dropped into the head of Left Fork, did upper left fork, Das Boot, and Subway. Great canyons with lots of water.
Monday, we were going to do Oak Creek, but it looked like rain; so some recent ACA class people joined us for an ascent of North Guardian.
Tuesday, joined up with Josh, his brother, and a friend for Behunin. Good drops, pretty easy canyon overall but watch the pulls. Last drop had a good view.
Wednesday out to the HITR area. Hooked up with a canyon newbie from AZ (Colin) and did Davis all the way down to Powell. He did well. Fun little canyon, the raps are easy downclimbs. Recommend avoiding the middle section; lots of bushwhacking.
Thursday, RJ and Janelle joined Colin and I. We did Egypt 3 all the way to 25 mile wash. The last neck deep wading was horrible. Muck bottom, putrid water, lots of dead things floating in the water. Grand finale was slogging through deep mud after the scum water. Other than the swim, the canyon was great. Very tight in spots. Had to stem over a small rattlesnake.
Friday, the Chaos group showed up, and we did Egypt 2 from the headwall to E3 convergence. Nice tight canyon, not as tight as E3, but still a good one. Stemmed over another small rattlesnake. Showed some of the Chaos folks the end of the E3 wade. Ick, still feeling slimy from that one. Hiked down Fence to the Escalante.
Saturday was Neon canyon. Lugged our wetsuits, didn’t need them. No swimming, waste deep wading at most, and only in around 3 spots. Fun canyon though, some really cool tight spots on our entry; and neat keeper potholes.
Sunday was Choprock. An awesome grand finale. Very fun and challenging canyon. It was as easy as that canyon is going to get. I can see that canyon being very challenging and even deadly in high water (it was about 3 feet lower than normal when we did it, based on the water lines on the wall…)
Monday hike out of Fence and drive home. Got home around 6am, as I had to stop to take a couple of naps on the way back.
Thanks again Ram, for letting me join in the Zion fun; and to Colin and the others for joining me at HITR. It was a grand trip. Sorry that it’s over and reality is setting back in…
Take care, A.J.
