Tamarisk Beetle on the southern Rio Grande
Who said the tammy beetles would not drop south? They are now south of the Arizona border with Mexico, along the Rio Grande. There is a great map here:

showing that the beetles have headed through Grand Canyon, across Lake Mead, and are now headed south on the Colorado River below Hoover Dam.

In September, jenny and I hiked the Lower Muddy Creek Gorge coming back from Knotted rope and were astounded by what we thought were dead tammies. Fully 95% of the trees were, as it turns out, defoliated. I was going to ask what was going on with this when I tried to figure out how to spell tamrask and came up with this link. I still worry about unintended consequences, but it was gratifying to see so many bare tammies. Anyone got updates??? Where have the beetles been released?
