Mark your calendar! The San Gabriel (Front Range) Rendezvous, hosted by the San Gabriel Chapter of the American Canyoneering Association (ACA) will be June 8-11, 2006. The Front Range rendezvous will provide opportunities to explore canyons from Palm Springs westward to the sea. Our centralized location will provide easy access to many of Southern California’s favorite canyons including: Eaton Canyon, Bailey Canyon, Lower Santa Anita, Lytle Creek, Rubio Canyon, San Antonio Creek, and many others. The rendezvous is open to regular ACA members of all skill levels.
The full-service campground, located in a large regional park in San Dimas, California, provides a great centralized location. The campground features laundry facilities, showers, a camp store, pool and can accommodate RV’s and trailers. If you’re planning to bring family along the park offers a large lake, a hot tub resort, and one of California’s largest water parks. The campground is just 10 miles from the Ontario Airport, 22 miles from Disneyland, and 40 miles from the great California beaches.
Along with our traditional and après’ canyon activities, Saturday night’s pot luck dinner, this year were planning a canyon film festival, slideshows, and a Friday night spaghetti feed. It will be a great time to reunite with old canyon buddies, meet some canyoneering legends, and network with other canyoneer’s from around the state and nation.
Look for more announcements and registration opening in early April.
We need your help!
The SG Rendezvous is organized and executed entirely by volunteers. It is a non-profit event and any money raised will go directly to the chapter. This year the executive committee has already put a great deal of work into organizational efforts and community service events and I would be hesitant to ask these people bear anymore load. We need 10 to 15 more volunteers to help with:
• Help with the spaghetti dinner – Calius Baldwin has agreed to organize but needs lots of help • Registration / Orientation – Check-in Thursday and Friday • Canyon Concierge – Helping orphaned canyoneer’s find trips / organize and distribute trip info pre-ronde • Trip Hosts – Host trips for visiting/newbie canyoneer’s • Logistics Coordinator – coordinate equipment and power needed on-site • Canyon Wear Coordinator – design and order event T-shirt
All volunteer help is appreciated, please let me know where you can help. I can be contacted at jenningsb@nezero.net or 949-474-6889.
